domestic shipping. We do ship International but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
A very nice little bottle with a western legacy. The A. Schilling that is embossed on the base stands for August Schillings who in 1881 San Francisco started the A. Schilling & Co. It then became the Schillings Spice Co. and went through a few other changes over time until 1946 when it merged into McCormick & Company. Since then, McCormick has continued to sell spices under the Schilling brand name, mainly in the western United States. Some of these bottles came with small glass stoppers in them that have an embossed cross on them, though this bottle has no stopper of any kind.
But it does have a beautiful sun colored amethyst tint to it
from the manganese in the glass that was used as a 'decolorizing' agent, to turn the natural aqua/marine colored glass into crystal clear colorless glass. Exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns this amethyst color. It is thus referred to as Sun Colored Amethyst (SCA) glass and as you can see, makes a vessel quite desirable to look at. The longer the glass is in the sun the deeper purple it becomes. With few exceptions, only glass that was made before WWI will take on this sun-colored-amethyst COLOR so it is also a good way to date glass. Not only does this purple/amethyst color make for a great looking little bottle but it also authenticates it as being truly antique
