    Description

Early Production Pre-WWI Great Seal Coat Button and WWII Overcoat Button
The great seal button was adopted in 1902 according to Albert Alphaeus in his "Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons." The coat-sized button appears to be very early production given the
    backmark
SCOVILL MF'G CO. / WATERBURY (w/ inner ring of dots). The backmark dates from the 1880s to 1900 according to Warren K Tice in his "Uniform Buttons of the United States." Therefore the button was probably produced close to the adoption of the great seal design in 1902 and could predate WWI. The overcoat button is likely from the WWII era and after. It's backmark is V.C. CORP. / BKLYN, N.Y. U.S.A. The condition of both buttons is consistent with their age and use. Please reference photos and contact me with any questions.
