insurance. We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
These FOLGER'S Golden Gate FLAVORING extract bottles were around way before the bridge spanned the Golden Gate.
This is an original antique bottle put out by the J.A. Folger's Co. of San Francisco, Cal. To back up, in 1850, J.A. (James Athearn) Folger, with his two older bros., came to San Francisco, drawn by the California gold rush. At age 15 he found employment with the Pioneer Steam Coffee & Spice Mills, and worked at roasting coffee. Sometime in the 1860's, Folger was able to purchase the business and he then started the J. A. Folger Co., which has been a going concern ever since. In time the Folger Co. was producing several types of food products including food colorings, spices, flavoring extracts, sauces, coffee, etc.
What makes this bottle special is the
COLORFUL LABEL
on the back side of this bottle. Only so many antique bottles have survived a century of time with their original paper labels intact, making this a finite antique. On the label there is a faded picture of a
LARGE CLIPPER SHIP
just outside of San Francisco, reflecting the pioneer spirit of a young J. A. Folger, coming to San Francisco in 1850, and going on to create a great western empire
