PROMETHEAN ENTERPRISES" (PUBLISHED BY BUD PLANT, JIM VADEBONCOER AND AL DAVOREN), LATE 60'S COVERS AND INTERIOR COMIX OF THE BERKELEY BARB, FIVE (5) PSYCHEDELIC ROCK CONCERT POSTERS IN THE EARLY 1970'S, 11 YEARS OF HIS FULL COLOR, MASS MARKETED "DRAGONS" CALENDARS IN THE LATE 90'S AND 2000'S, AS WELL AS HIS FULL COLOR CHILDREN'S BOOKS, "DRAGON WORLD" (FEATURING OVER 50 OF HIS INCREDIBLE FULL COLOR DRAGON PAINTINGS) ALONG WITH HIS WRITTEN POETIC TALE, "THROUGH THE FAIRY DOOR / ONLY I AM", "OVER THE SEA TO SKYE" (GREAT PEN & INK ILLUSTRATIONS THROUGHOUT ROBERT HUTCHINSON'S BOOK), ETC. -
THIS POSTER FEATURES ONE OF HIS 1974 PAINTINGS ORIGINALLY COMMISSIONED BY EITHER RANDOM HOUSE OR BALLANTINE BOOKS FOR AN UPCOMING J.R.R. TOLKIEN LORD OF THE RINGS CALENDAR IN THE MID 1970'S, ALTHOUGH IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED OUT THAT THE SISTER COMPANY WAS ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO PRODUCE THE CALENDAR, SO THE BROTHERS HILDEBRANDT'S CALENDAR WAS PRODUCED FOR DISTRIBUTION BY THE PUBLISHING COMPANY, THUS THIS AND THE OTHER SIX PAINTINGS ROB BROWN HAD RECEIVED ADVANCE PAYMENTS FOR IN 1974, UNFORTUNATELY WENT UNPUBLISHED BY BOTH BALLANTINE AND RANDOM HOUSE.
IN 1978, ARTIST ROB BROWN HIMSELF PRINTED TWO OF HIS PAINTINGS, EACH IN A SMALL 300 POSTER PRINT RUN, ALTHOUGH THE POSTERS ONLY SAW VERY LIMITED DISTRIBUTION, SO THE ARTIST LATER BURNED THE REMAINING COPIES WHILST PREPARING TO MOVE TO OREGON A FEW YEARS LATER, IN CONSIDERATION OF THE PROJECT HAVING CONSUMED WAY TOO MUCH TIME, AS WELL AS NOT EVEN REIMBURSING HIS ORIGINAL PRINTING EXPENSES.
THUS ONLY 50 OR SO OF EACH OF THE TWO POSTERS WERE DISTRIBUTED FOR SALE PRIOR TO THE DESTRUCTION OF THE REMAINING PRINT RUN.
The poster has minor bends and wrinkling from slightly rough handling in the thin, white margins surrounding the image (easily matted out and would present fantastique in a frame, as is) - Stored away from light, still 100% original vivid & vibrant color strength, 41 years following it's publication in 1978! - Ultra Mega Rare - EXCELLENT CONDITION
